Chang’s path to the crown began with a challenging chapter in her life – a period of bullying that left her grappling with her Asian identity. Her story is deeply rooted in her experiences as an Asian American, navigating the complexities of cultural identity amidst discrimination and misunderstanding.

Due to these early experiences, Chang struggled with her identity and self-worth. She shares, “For many years, I felt voiceless and stagnant. Every time I opened my mouth, my desire to speak worked against my gut feeling of self-doubt––like pressing the gas pedal and the brake at the same time. The mere thought of speaking up, whether in class discussions or social gatherings, seemed like an insurmountable challenge.” This period of her life was a battle not just with external prejudices but an internal struggle for self-acceptance and worth.

These experiences, painful as they were, ignited a fierce determination within her to stand up for her identity and advocate for the Asian community. Faced with adversity, she sought solace and self-confidence in the halls of an all-girls private school, where she discovered the strength to stand tall and embrace her individuality. 

This moment has built the foundation of resilience in her, turning adversity into a catalyst for change and empowerment.

A True Queen in the Making

Chang’s transformative journey took a pivotal turn in 2022 when she tried out for Miss Taiwanese American. Through this experience, Chang delved into her heritage, exploring Taiwan’s rich history and culture. This exploration ignited a profound realization of the importance of embracing one’s identity and finding one’s voice – a lesson she would carry with her into the spotlight of Miss Asia USA. 

“Through these platforms, I am able not only continue to empower myself but also empower my community in hopes of inspiring others who are also going through a similar journey. Confidence is not something you are born with; it is something you must work towards. Being immersed in an environment that encourages me to fully embrace my Asian identity helped heal and redefine the painful memories.” 

Now adorned with the Miss Asia USA crown, Chang’s intelligence, grace, and heartfelt advocacy distinguish her as a remarkable contender and a model for what modern women can achieve. Beyond the glitz and glamour, she is on a mission to inject substance into the pageantry world. 

As she graces the stage in her reign this year, Chang stands as an inspiration, encouraging women to embrace their identities, find their voices, and illuminate the path to their own crowns.

Embracing Diversity, Promoting Culture

Now, with an even larger platform as 2024 Miss Asia USA, Chang continues to leverage her influence to bring attention to critical social issues. She embraces the responsibility of being a role model and an ambassador of cultural diversity and inclusion, going beyond mere representation but about initiating change. 

As Miss Asia USA, she not only wears a crown but also carries the torch of inclusivity and empowerment for all. Her commitment to bridging cultural divides and championing meaningful causes positions her not only as a beauty queen but as a multifaceted advocate poised to leave an enduring impact on the world stage.

She mentions, “This platform has provided me with an opportunity to explore and affirm my identity, values, and goals. More importantly, it has become a means to inspire others, empowering those who often lack a voice.” 

For Chang, diversity isn’t just about having different faces in the room. It’s about listening to those voices, sharing their unique stories, and learning from each other. 

Chang’s Advocacy Beyond the Pageant’s Spotlight

The Miss Asia USA’s influence extends beyond beauty stages to prestigious social events, where she showcases her speaking poise and eloquence by being an emcee and moderator.

Notably, Chang had the chance to be the emcee for the President of Taiwan’s banquet, a testament to her standing in both beauty and diplomatic circles. Her versatility in public speaking led her to moderate for renowned brands like Chanel, where she brought her insightful perspective to discussions on fashion, culture, and empowerment. Her ability to seamlessly navigate diverse arenas underscores her versatility and adaptability, knowing how to use her voice to drive positive change in any platform given to her. 

Looking ahead, Chang eagerly anticipates hosting events such as the Asia Game Changer West Awards Gala – Honoring Innovative Leaders Impacting Asia and the World and the Asian Pacific Community Fund Gala (APCF) this June, where she will continue to amplify the voices of the Asian community and contribute to meaningful causes. 

The APCF is the only community-based fund serving Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in Southern California. Her involvement with Asian Society further solidifies her dedication to fostering connections and driving change within the community.

As she continues to inspire women worldwide to embrace their identities and find their voices, Chang’s legacy will undoubtedly endure, leaving an indelible mark on the world stage for generations to come.
